UPCOMING EVENTS 〰️

October is almost here, and PLF is so excited to be reigniting the longstanding tradition of the October First Friday Pyro Circus street show at Gallery5’s annual Carnival of 5 Fires!

We will be closing down Marshall in front of G5 and ART180 for our biggest and brightest street show yet. Come celebrate the 28th anniversary of the First Friday art walk in RVA, and spectate the daring art of fire performance. The evening will be accompanied by local PLF DJs along with some of the most amazing artists in our area for a celebratory night of circus arts, dance, visual projections, fire sculptures, live painting, and more. We’ll be sharing the streets with Richmond Moon Market’s 50+ arts vendors, food trucks, and other enticing attractions. Come see all that the block has to offer! As always, this is a FREE family friendly community event geared towards enriching, inspiring, and stoking the fires of collaborative creativity in and around our Historic Jackson Ward neighborhood as part of Richmond Arts District’s First Fridays. All ages and walks of life are welcome and invited. Feel free to bring a portable seat and comfort items if you’d like to stay for a while and enjoy the magic.

All PLF events are “leave no trace” so help us keep the streets clean by disposing any trash into proper waste bins. We strive to leave the streets cleaner than when we found them!

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FIRE PERFORMERS - please read carefully! PLF is excited to invite crowd experienced and safety oriented spinners to join us in sharing our passion for igniting wonder and performing with fire! In order to spin, you must attend a mandatory safety meeting for instructions and to sign the performance waiver. There will be no exceptions. Safety meetings will be at 6:30pm and 8:30pm. Please be on time so we can stay on schedule. Crowd experienced performers only! PLF Fire Managers reserve the right to ask you questions and vet your level of experience. All props must be in good working order. We will be inspecting props when you sign the waiver and at the fuel depot. Wear appropriate fire performance attire - frayed, loose, flowy, or fuzzy clothing will not be permitted. Opt for natural fibers that are fitted and comfortable. All performers MUST be sober to participate. No exceptions. Safety after you spin! This is fire circle etiquette 101. Refrain from using phones or chatting with friends while safetying. With the exception of fire breathing, we will only be using white gas (naptha, camp fuel) - standard for professional fire preforming in the US. Fire breathing will be held until last, as lamp oil could make the performance area slick for other spinners. Fuel donations welcome and appreciated! Please only bring fuel in original undamaged containers. There will be a line to the designated fuel depot - there will not be a sign up sheet, so use good line manners. Please do not bring non-fire spinning friends into performer holding areas.
Newer fire spinner? Come introduce yourself! We’d love to meet you, and welcome extra help with safety.

Secure important belongings out of sight in your car. PLF is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Public portapotties and sanitation stations will be located in the alley, on Brook Rd between G5 and GWARbar.

—Additional note to performers and contributors: This beloved and iconic event would be nothing if not for the generous contributions of so many passionate and extremely talented artists over nearly two decades. So much gratitude to all of the wonderful folks that donate their time, energy, and skills to this tradition and to the PLF community at large

Every PLF event has a zero tolerance policy for consent violations of any kind. We will kick you out. DO NOT TOUCH THE PERFORMERS. PERIOD! Even to tip! You MAY tip them by asking them how they would like to be tipped. (Consent is awesome! Touching without asking is not. You will be kicked out.) We value curating safer celebratory spaces and encourage everyone to be kind to and look out for each other. Violence, aggression, instigation, fighting, or over-the-top tomfoolery will lead to you being asked to exit by our security team. Please find an event organizer, security team member, or manager if you need help. There will always be someone at the front gate. This event is 21+. This is a "rain or shine" event.
